Vaidyanath Jyotirlinga

Vaidyanath Jyotirlinga, also known as the Baidyanath Dham, It is one of the 12 Jyotirlinga of the Lord Shiva, located in the Deoghar district of Jharkhand. The meaning of the Vaidyanth is "The Lord of Physicians", which symbolizing the Lord Shiva as the healer and remover of ailments, Devotees believe that worshipping this Jyotirlinga can cure physical and mental suffering. 

Vaidyanath Jyotirlinga

The Vaidyanath Jyotirlinga is closely associated with the Legend Ravana, the king of Lanka and a great devotee of Lord Shiva. According to mythology, Ravana performed penance to please from Lord Shiva and requested to take the Shiva Lingam to Lanka. 

Lord Shiva agreed to give Lingam but put a condition that the Lingam must not be kept on the ground during their journey toward Lanka. While traveling, Ravana needed to take a break and handed the lingam to Young boy (believed to Lord Vishnu or Lord Ganesh). The Young boy placed the lingam on the ground and despite ravana efforts, then the lingam could not moved again. This is believed to be the place where the Vaidyanath Jyotirlinga was established. 

Vaidyanth Jyotirlinga is unique because it is considered both a Jyotirlinga and a Shakti Peetha, the temple is especially significant during the holy month of Shravan, when millions of pilgrims known as Kanwariyas walk long distance to offer holy water from the Ganga River to Lord Shiva.

Vaidyanath Jyotirlinga

Shiv Ganga Ghat is a sacred water kund created by the Ravana, Ravana worshipped Lord Shiva with deep devotion and performed severe penance in this region. It is belived that Lord Shiva blessed him here and then the water kund is known as the Shiv Ganga.
