Chopta
Chopta is Known as the "Mini Switzerland of India". It is situated at an High altitude of 2800 m above the sea level in the Rudraprayag District of Garhwal Himalayas in Uttarakhand India. Chopta is famous because of its natural beauty, trekking routes and mainly spiritual importance.
Chopta offers a panoramic views of snow-covered Himalayas peaks like Nanda Devi, Trishul and Chaukhamba. The area of the chopta is covered with meadows and forest which make it extremely scenic.
Places to Visit in Chopta
Tungnath Temple
Tungnath Temple is one of the most famous and Highest Shiva Temple in the world. It is situated at an high altitude of about 3680 m (approximate) above the sea level. Tungnath offers a peaceful surrounding, panoramic Himalayan views, forests and spiritual significance.
The Tungnath Temple is also known as the Panch Kedar temple which is associated with the Pandavas from the Mahabharata.
Chandrashila Peak
Chandrashila Peak is one of the famous Himalayan peak located near Chopta, Uttarakhand. It is just above the Tungnath Temple at about 4,000 m altitude. It is known for its 360° panoramic views of major Himalayan peaks like Nanda Devi, Trishul, and Chaukhamba.
Chandrashila is popular for sunrise views, scenic beauty, and mythological significance as it is believed that Lord Rama meditated here.
Deoria Tal
Deoria Tal is a beautiful lake situated at an high altitude of 2438 m above the sea level near Chopta Uttarakhand, it is famous for its crystal clear water that reflects the Chaukhamba Mountain Peak.
Deoria Tal is a popular spot for nature lovers, trekkers, and campers and is considered one of the most picturesque lakes in Uttarakhand.
Kanchula Korak Musk Deer Sanctuary
Kanchula Korak Sanctuary is about 8 km from the Chopta, situated at an altitude of around 2500 m (8202 ft). The Sanctuary is small but ecologically rich wildlife sanctuary and it is nested with Kedarnath Wildlife Landscape.
The Kanchula Korak Sanctuary was specially created to protect the Himalayan Musk Deer which are in danger. The Sanctuary is dense with oak, rhododendron and alpine forests making it a peaceful and scenic place for nature lovers.
Chopta Meadows (Chopta Bugyal)
The meaning of the Bugyal is high-altitude meadow, Meadows of the Chopta are vast rolling grasslands which are surrounded by oak, pine, and rhododendron forests that offers uninterrupted views of the Himalayas.
It lies on the route to Tungnath Temple and Chandrashila Peak, making it both a destination and a resting point. This area is one of the most scenic parts of Chopta and remains relatively peaceful and uncrowded.
